What is your definition of a good app? For me, if it’s a game app, it has to be able to hold my attention longer than playing peek-a-boo with a 3 year old while stuck on an airplane (which I don’t recommend playing, since you will want to yell, in a few short minutes, “It will always be me”.) If it’s a travel app it needs to provide a function which will make my life easier whilst enjoying my trip and give me pertinent information. For a productivity app, I want to make sure the app fulfils a need and works effortlessly so I can continue on with my already stressful workday.
Pixelnetica has a productivity/business app for iPhone called SharpScan which allows the user to take a quick scan of any documents one might need on the fly. The app is easy to use, and has “help” videos built in at the start of the app to get the user up and running quickly. I downloaded the app both on my iPhone and my iPad (worked fabulously, in the 2X mode) and was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the snapshot. The quality of the shot will also only improve along with the changes to the technology of the iPhone’s camera. I use an older iPhone 3 so the pictures were a little more difficult to see, but they were still very useful. The iPad 4 shots were super, crisp and clear.
For ease, you can convert the document into a PDF form or keep it in image form, allowing the user the ability to choose their preferred method of sharing information. Sharp Scan is also linked into Dropbox, which helps for moving information around the world and by using the cloud making the app extremely space conscience. Another great feature of SharpScan is allowing you to build an album with multiple page documents. There are a few minor editing keys in the app, cropping and rotations, but no other gimmicky things to slow down the operation of the app.
SharpScan comes in both a free and a paid version. The free version has minor ads running on the bottom and there will be water marks on the pages when you print them. The paid Pro version of the app is beneficial, if documents rule your day, giving you a few extra benefits and no ads to clutter your screen.
