Browsing Cydia today I came across an application that I personally things is a must have. Auto3G, from the title you get a hint of what the application is about. The app automatically turns off 3G when you lock your iPhone and back on when you unlock the iPhone. I didn’t hesitate to purchase this, I think this will greatly extend my iPhone battery life. I’m always using 3G when I’m away from home, and I have to go into settings.app or sbsettings to turn it off, and majority of the times I forget.
Cydia description below:
Requires iPhone with 3G
Auto3G extends your battery life by automatically turning off the 3G radio (leaving on the 2G radio) when you lock your iPhone and automatically turning on the 3G radio when when you unlock your iPhone. This way you always have the speed of 3G when you need it without the battery loss.
As explained by Apple, this results in up to 100% greater battery life: “7 hours of talk time on 3G, 14 hours of talk time on 2G.” (apple.com/batteries/iphone.html)
Use the Auto3G icon to change settings.
The developer Kay Cee Press, LLC wisely use something that’s already out there. The exact thing happens when you’re connected to Wi-Fi, when you lock your iPhone the Wi-Fi automatically turns off and turns back on when you unlock your iPhone. So I have to think to myself why didn’t Apple implement this same feature. But props to the developer.
The app cost $5.99 is it worth it, I think so but not everyone would agree. Check it out on Cydia in thebigboss repo. Check out the video below.
