This is an educational tool that allows pre-school children read using a method to help get your child ready for the experience of reading. It is an educational method it calls “iRead With” that will help your nursery aged child foster the development of language and reading.
The central character is a baseball-capped boy called Caillou, whose parents are trying desperately hard to put the little guy to bed. But the problem is that Caillou keeps hearing funny and strange noises and just can’t get off to sleep. This is when the action begins as Mum and Dad are always close to hand to help Caillou determine what the funny noises actually are and describe to him some of the strange shadows he is seeing as he struggles to fall asleep
By following the storyline you pre-school child will discover whether or not Caillou and his parents actually get to have a good night’s sleep. Caillou – What’s That Funny Noise is actually an eBook that makes children talk – which is what they love to do anyway!
Caillou – What’s That Funny Noise is based on the hit television series of the same name, and this animated story is part of iRead With, a new read-aloud program specifically designed and wonderfully created to foster language development and help your nursery and preschoolers or preschool-aged kids get ready to read.
The app’s special program is designed to help children talk and get involved in the shared reading activity. The program has been based on a dialogic reading method which has been developed in a partnership with the University of McGill’s Child Phonology Labs.
I was finally able to find an app that actually brings my four-year old boy and me together. The prompting system works by a set of narrative sequences that are punctuated by prompts and conversation starters. It invites the child to talk about the world and environment around them.
There are several primary skills that can be developed here including speech and oral language, vocabulary, phonological awareness, emergent literacy concepts, narrative skills and comprehension strategies. All of which are key to any child and their learning to read and write processes. My lad was fascinated with the feature that allows you to tap a word and trigger a sound or an emotion, and also animate that word on your iPhone and iPad right before their eyes.
