Fight Or Half-Fight The Hordes With Clicker Heroes

There’s been a certain trend in app games lately, and that is the trend of idle RPGs. The idea behind idle RPGs is quite simple; it’s a gameplay system that removes the dreading ‘grinding’ aspect and replaces it with automatic leveling up. In other words, it’s RPG-ing with the dull parts removed. Because who likes leveling up characters for hours on end? Not today’s smartphone community, that’s for sure. However, while the idle RPG is a good idea in theory, it can also go very wrong if approached the wrong way. Many idle RPGs available on the ever-expanding market are rushed, haphazard affairs offering little engagement. Clicker Heroes is not one of those games. In fact, it’s the polar opposite. It’s bright, bold, addictive, and it’s out now for iOS and Android. Oh, and it’s free.

The first thing you notice about Clicker Heroes is how professional it looks and sounds. The developers have obviously put a lot of time and thought into their creation and it shows. The amazing look of the game may also have something to do with the fact that it’s a port from its Steam and PC version – so it comes with a reliable pedigree and more than a few new features. The graphics, designs and sound are all top notch, and go a long way in establishing the games easy-breezy, creative tone.

The actual gameplay of Clicker Heroes is deceptively simple. Monsters and creatures appear in front of you and you tap the screen repeatedly to drain their health. Then it’s done, done, on to the next one, as the hordes fly at you with ever-increasing strength. At the end of each series of levels, and in true RPG fashion, there’s a big ol’ boss to fight; these are timed battles where you’ll be up against the clock as you tap tap tap away at the big lad’s health. As you kill the creatures you’ll gather coins, which can be used to recruit other members. Once you gather yourself some comrades, you’ll be able to sit back and let your new friends do the lion’s share of the work, only having to step in during boss battles and particularly tough levels.

The mechanism is more than a little addictive. It’s pretty satisfying to see the beasts get smacked in one or two blows, as your power through them at a rate of knots. But that’s not all that Clicker Heroes is about. There are skills and achievements to unlock, as well as 1000 plus levels to battle through with dozens of heroes to recruit along the way. The new update adds two new intriguing features into the mix. The first is a multiplayer mode, always a solid choice with RPGs, which turns the game into a sort of halfbreed of idle and MMORPG. You form Clans with other players and join together to fight fearsome beings called the ‘Immortals’. With new language support added as well, it’s clear Clicker Heroes is here to stay. If you’re a fan of RPGs or just great games in general, I highly recommend checking this one out.

The developers, Poki, offer a free-to-play version, but you can also enter the fray at the App Store and Google Play and get battling for free today!
