If you’ve ever been to Cyber-dog in Camden Town, London, looked around at the strange, colourful, alien rave gear and wondered what it would be like if you dropped ecstasy, turned into a star and started playing a mashup of space invaders and pong, then the concept of Starific – Endless Arcade Reactor by developer Alex Gierczyk might seem somewhat familiar to you and not all together mental (like it is for the rest of us).
I have no idea what the game is about really, but I know I like it. The little that I can tell you, is that the name of this game here is style and it has it in spades. Colourful, fast-paced and set to an ’80s arcade rave soundtrack, this absolutely crackers and highly addictive game will see you trying to keep a load of stars from escaping a round arena by moving a bar across the border, rebounding them (the stars) back into play.
There’s plenty of explosions and power-ups to be had as well as multiple game modes with various colour themes and utter chaos to choose from. Leaving absolutely no time to get bored the endless bombardment of chain reactions will see you sky rocket up levels setting you different challenges over the hundred+ quests that are available.
Depending on your skill level (practise makes perfect) and preferences, you can customize the difficulty level, controls and pallets allowing you to completely personalise your gaming experience.
To succeed you’ll need to be able to maintain your speed, keep up a good reaction time all whilst trying to remain strategical. It’s maddening, chaotic, addictive and most importantly fun. It gets a big 2 thumbs up from this reviewer and I can highly recommend it to anyone who likes a bit of time-killing, arcade fun every once in awhile.
