ctrip.com is one of the largest travel online travel agencies in China and they are now offering travel booking services via a new iOS app. Ctrip app for Apple devices has a fresh and clean look, and even though it is geared to travelling to China or being a Chinese traveller looking to book travel elsewhere, the app works surprisingly well for all world nomads. I am in the United States and was pleased with the search mechanism for hotels and flights from my location.
The set up page allows you set your preferences for language, currency, unit of distance. You will be required to set up an account with Ctrip, which will also give you access via the website. The features I found the most helpful was the flight status. With my device set with my location services, the app pulled all the incoming flights arriving into my city. You can also quickly add the Flight Number you are waiting for and see its flight progress. The Train information is updated regularly and necessary for anyone travelling in or to China.
The hotel booking function is pretty good. I used a couple of different sources and found the pricing to be competitive as all the other “all inclusive” travel apps. But, again I reiterate, Ctrip is geared to the Chinese Market, so in certain other locations the search results might be very limited. If you tap the “locations” it will being up the major cities of China, but you will only have to add your city to extend your searching information.
This is a very good app. If you are planning to visit China and all it’s glory, this app will surely help in the planning of your trip, and with all the things you need while you are traveling. My only con of the app what on the iPad the app is wireframes for portrait only. But I am sure as the app is downloaded and developed it will eventually have landscape rotation. So, you if you are looking to book a trip to China, I highly recommend C-Trip.
