Zap Zap Math is an educational game developed by Visual Math Interactive. The gamed is aimed at children and divided in different fields of math like adding, fractions and even reading a clock. The app is constructed like most games with worlds, levels and a star rating.
The presentation is colourful and playful. The graphics look professional with stylised drawings and animations. The space theme allows for creative character design. The music and sound complement the visuals very well, the “succeed” and “fail” sounds and other effects enhance the playful nature of the game. The game is available in three languages but most information is visual, even children that speak other languages will understand the game mechanics quickly.
On its own Zap Zap Math game is not a real learning tool. The information in limited to explaining the mini-games, there’s no real attempt at explaining the subjects beyond the gameplay mechanics. A bit more background and insights into mathematical subject would have been welcome. However, as a complimentary app alongside math education in school or by a parent the app allows the child to practice math in an entertaining manner.
Zap Zap Math does not have any advertising or in-app purchases. The few options that link outside the app have a verification question for adults. The presentation is suitable for all ages, there’s no questionable content in the game.
This educational game provides an excellent introduction to math. The process is heavily “gamified” with level progression, points, awards etc. That will keep the attention of the child and replay is encouraged. At the moment the game is completely free to download and offers a lot of content. Parental guidance is recommended, use the involvement this game creates and teach your children math in a fun way.
It is a highly recommended game to help your kids learn maths.
