Having the opportunity to place an entire movie editing software kit onto our iPhone or iOS device was always going to sound challenging, but with MovieShop it was a lot easier than we might have imagined. To get started, it cannot be easier – you need only shoot some length of video from your phone or iPad and then you take it back to your desk and start the editing process. You may wish to trim down your video so only the very best quality clips are left. These are the very kind of things that television producers have been doing in the studio for years, and now we get to play along too.
Using your own video you can trim, copy and even merge another video clip onto an existing one – although any effort to perform this could end up making the finished article looking more like something out of a dodgy 70s pop video.
Adding in sound effects is easy and you will be presented from a range of tunes from your iPod or iTunes catalogue on your device to use. Once you get all the bits and bobs together, trim off the boring bits of video, the cuts where you accidentally dropped the video camera (your device) and of course any “bad acting” clips, you can add in the music and edit the finished and polished article.
The next stage is one where you can share the video to all of your friends and family on a number of social media websites like Vine, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube – the list goes on. This is the easier part as it’s more like showing off your decorated to your guests after all the hard work has been done.
What we really liked about Movie Shop was the features and the sheer size of different things you were able to do. It is a tool for a film making company rather than a video editing plaything for amateurs. But this does not mean to say it is difficult for the layman to use.
All the essentials are here: overlaying and inserting text onto your video is simple, adding in special sound effects like an explosion or lightning, slowing down or speeding up the film and of course, creating photo slideshows from all your holiday photos. Movie Shop is also packed with several pro features, free for the time being but likely to charge at a later date.
