Asus just announced its new flagship, the ROG Phone 2, recently. The device is a gaming-optimized model with impressive hardware and great aesthetics. ROG (Republic of Gamers) is the gaming brand of Asus and the company used it for gaming laptops and related accessories. The Taiwanese device maker has unveiled the ROG Phone 2 in China, in collaboration with Tencent, the mobile entertainment giant. The international launch of ROG 2 Phone will be on September 4. The visual design of the ROG Phone 2 is similar to the original ROG phone model, with its shard-like aesthetics. One noteworthy feature of the device is a cooling vent on the back to keep the high-speed Snapdragon 855 Plus SoC relatively cool, despite intense 3D gaming session.
The Snapdragon 855 Plus is essentially an overclocked version of the current Snapdragon 855, with the CPU 4 percent faster and the GPU 15 percent faster. The faster GPU should be well appreciated and it could ensure smoother gameplay, when the device is rendering quick 3D actions. Early benchmark results have shown that the ROG Phone 2 is capable of edging out current flagships in the market, including the Samsung Galaxy 10+ and OnePlus 7 Pro. Users may also purchase an optional air cooler, called the AeroActive Cooler 2.
The 6.6-inch display provides maximum screen size for exciting gaming experience. The dimension of the device isn’t too wide, so it’s still comfortable for playing mobile games. The 120Hz refresh rate and 1ms response rate ensure fluid rendering on the display, while many flagships are still using 60Hz display. The Snapdragon 855 Plus surely requires high amount of power when running in full capacity, so Asus embeds the 6000mAh battery as well for longer gameplay. Based on calculations, it’s possible to play PUBG Mobile or Arena of Valor for more than seven hours at 60Hz display refresh rate. It will drain more battery juice, if you choose to enable the 120Hz refresh rate.
