The release of Motorola’s next flagship is just a few months away and it will be called the Motorola Edge+. It seems that another variant called the Motorola Edge will come to the market as well. As a more affordable device, the Motorola Edge will come with punch hole for selfie camera and waterfall display with sharply curved edges. It will have Full HD+ (2340 x 1080) screen with 90Hz refresh rate. Users can save battery life by reducing the refresh rate to standard 60Hz, which is adequate for web browsing and using social media. Despite having a hefty 6.7-inch display, the impressively thin bezel should make the phone quite compact in the hand.
The Motorola Edge comes with a vertical, long camera module with a 64MP primary camera. This camera can produce high quality 16MP images with 4 in 1 pixel-binning technology. Other cameras are a 16MP ultra-wide sensor and 8MP telephoto sensor with up to 3x optical zoom. The triple-camera setup is supported by the dual-LED flash and laser autofocus system. Inside, the device is powered by the mid-range SoC, Qualcomm Snapdragon 765. It isn’t as fast as the Snapdragon 865, but you could still get very snappy experience. The 6GB of RAM should be adequate for casual multitasking performance and the 128GB of internal storage is enough for storing large quantity of apps and files.
The Motorola Edge will run Android 10 out of the box with the 4,500mAh battery keeping the lights on inside. There’s support for fast wired charging. The 3.5mm audio jack makes the phone compatible with a wide range of wired headphones and at the front, there’s the in-screen fingerprint scanner. To ensure 5G data connectivity, the phone has the Snapdragon X52 modem. Originally, Motorola planned to announce the Edge at the MWC 2020 event, but the gradual global shutdown has caused the cancellation of the event. This forces Motorola to shelve the plan and there’s still no announcement for the new date for the official release. The more expensive Edge+ is a more capable device with Snapdragon 865 SoC, 108MP camera and 5,000mAh battery.
