OnePlus is known for well-priced flagship models and in 2015, they had the short-lived OnePlus X that couldn’t crack the mid-range segment. The tipster, Max Weinbach, reported recently that the company is planning to revamp its OnePlus X under a new series. The hardware configuration of this new device seems to match the currently leaked OnePlus 8 Lite. The final product could be released to the market as the OnePlus Z. Ishan Agarwal who correctly leaked the specifications of OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro corroborated this report as well. The OnePlus Z may hit the shelves across the UK later this year at £400 or about $450 in the United States.
It means that the OnePlus Z is competing with iPhone 9 and Pixel 4a XL that are priced similarly. The phone is placed under the OnePlus 7T, currently retails in the United Kingdom for £549 and $599 in the United States. There’s no official confirmation about this phone from OnePlus yet, but it’s quite likely that we will see the unveiling of the OnePlus Z in early July. The phone may have a triple-camera system and a 90-Hz display. Based on previous leaks on OnePlus 8 Lite, it may have a 6.4-inch AMOLED display and a centered punch hole for the front-facing camera. However, bezels are somewhat thicker this time around and there are no curved edges. The primary camera will be a 48MP shooter, accompanied by 16MP and 12MP sensors of unspecified type. Along with the LED flash, there could be laser autofocus to improve photography quality.
On the bottom, there will be a USB-C port, power button and an Alert Slider on the right side of the phone and on the left, the volume rocker. As for the internal hardware, OnePlus may ditch Qualcomm Snapdragon for a MediaTek chipset, although the exact model isn’t revealed yet. With 8GB of RAM and 128GB internal storage, the OnePlus Z allows you to store a lot of apps and files. A variant with 256GB internal storage is also expected.
The OnePlus 8 will probably be available on EE mobile, Vodafone and Three.
