Apple Will Start Producing iPhone 12 Max and iPhone 12 Pro in July

Despite the ongoing pandemic and the impending economic crisis, Apple is still confident about the high demand of its upcoming iPhone models. The company is planning to start the production phase of the iPhone 12 Max and iPhone 12 Pro in July. Both devices will have 6.1-inch display. The basic model of iPhone 12 will have a smaller 5.4-inch display, while the iPhone 12 Pro Max will be the biggest with 6.7-inch display. However, these two devices will be produced later this year. It means that the four variants will be released in a staggered manner. The iPhone 12 Max and iPhone 12 Pro would be available in the market in October. The basic iPhone 12 and the iPhone 12 Pro Max could be ready in November. Previously, Apple also adopted the staggered launch for the iPhone X and iPhone XR. It is possible that the delays are caused by the new OLED displays. It’s also the same problem that caused the delay of iPhone X and iPhone XR.

The 6.1-inch display for the iPhone 12 Max and iPhone 12 Pro has separate circuitry for the touchscreen and Apple can easily source it from current suppliers. The 5.4-inch display for the basic iPhone 12 and the 6.7-inch display for the iPhone 12 Pro Max use Y-OCTA technology. These displays don’t have dedicated layer and the touchscreen circuitry is directly attached on the OLED panel. With proper implementation, the Y-OCTA technology promises lower production costs and thinner panel. At the moment, the new technology is slowing down the production process. Previously, we heard reports that the 5.4-inch and 6.7-inch Y-OCTA displays are manufactured by Samsung. However, a well-known tipster, Jon Prosser, said that the smaller 5.4-inch display is made by BOE, a Chinese company. Apple is seeking for ways to reduce the production costs. Other than the Y-OCTA displays, we will also get many interesting features from the iPhone 12 lineup.

The iPhone 12 family will be powered with A14 Bionic processor and it comes with integrated 5G modem. The basic iPhone 12 and the iPhone 12 Max will operate 5G at sub-6 GHz band, while the Pro and Pro Max models will also have mmWave band for improved connectivity in urban areas. The standard internal storage for all iPhone 12 models will be 128GB. There are also 256 GB variant and for the Pro models, consumers can choose the 512 GB variant. As always, there’s no option for microSD card slot. The basic iPhone 12 will have 4GB of RAM, while the Pro models will have 6GB of RAM.

Another important feature is the ProMotion feature, which will be available for all iPhone 12 models, except for the basic iPhone 12. With ProMotion, it is possible for users to switch between 60Hz and 120Hz refresh rate to conserve battery. It should be noted that the recent iPad Pro already has ProMotion feature. The iPhone 12 Pro Max will have 4,400mAh battery to accommodate its larger 6.7-inch display. On the back of the device, there will be a LiDAR sensor to achieve more accurate auto-focus.
