Samsung 5G Galaxy Z Fold 2 will be unveiled on August 5th. The device will be the direct sequel to the original Galaxy Model released last year by Samsung. The South Korean smartphone maker tweeted a picture of the butterfly logo that will be used by the next Fold model. The company included the phrase “A new look unfolds” along with the date, August 5th. The butterfly logo with Mystic Bronze colour should be used for the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5G as well.
It’s clear that Samsung is taking feedback and concerns from customers who spent nearly $2,000 for an original Galaxy Fold. The company has made a number of changes to the new device. On the original device, the 4.6-inch display used as the external screen was quite problematic. It has big bezel and the size is too small for typing and doing other tasks. Many discovered that it is easier to do many tasks by opening the device and using the larger display, even for simpler tasks. The Galaxy Z Fold 2 5G will have the bigger 6.23-inch external display with thin bezels. The internal ultra-thin glass is slightly bigger at 7.7-inch, compared to the 7.3-inch used by the original model. With 120Hz refresh rate, users should have enhanced gaming experience, with improved animations and smoother navigation scrolling. However, we still don’t know yet whether the new external device will also have better refresh rate. We should find out about it next month.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 5G will be among the fastest Android devices on second half of 2020. It will be powered by the Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 865+ chipset with built-in 5G modem. The basic configuration of the device includes 12GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage. It is possible that Samsung will also offer a variant with 512GB of internal storage. Although the chipset has built-in 5G support, this capability could be disabled for some markets due to certain considerations. There are multiple batteries inside the new device with total capacity of 4365mAh. The 15W wireless charging and 25W fast charging should improve the overall experience. It includes Samsung’s Wireless Power Share, which allows the Galaxy Z Fold 2 to charge other devices wirelessly. The rear panel of Galaxy Z Fold 2 5G could become a wireless charging pad when you enable the feature. It is convenient to share battery juice with family and friends, if they have compatible devices with wireless charging.
There’s no information about the possible pricing of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 5G, but it could be nearly similar to the original device at around $2,000. The global economy is still reeling from the impact of coronavirus pandemic and it may be a tough sale in most markets. Furthermore, average smartphone owners can’t afford the original Fold during the pre-pandemic situation, so it there will be fewer who can afford the upcoming Fold device. During the August 5th event, Samsung will also introduce the Galaxy Z Flip 5G with Snapdragon 865+, Galaxy Note 20 and a few other devices.
