Benchmarking tools regularly become a way for us to discover new devices, before they are officially announced by the manufacturer. The Motorola Moto G9 Play has recently appeared on Geekbench. It seems to have better processor and more memory compared to its predecessor. Motorola launched the Moto G8 Play in October last year. The G8 Play is an affordable device 6.2-inch display, Mediate Helio P70M chipset, 4,000mAh battery and triple camera arrangement. The Geekbench listing shows that the Moto G9 Play will have a Qualcomm octa-core SoC, clocked at 1.8GHz, codenamed “guamp”. Based on the specification, it could be a Snapdragon 6xx SoC. The device will have 4GB of RAM or twice the amount of memory currently offered by the Moto G8 Play.
The device will be shipped with Android 10 operating system. The Motorola Moto G9 Play is still mostly a mystery, but it is likely among the cheapest and least capable in the G9 series. It could be sold in developing markets, such as India and Latin America. The price could be around $250. Other than the better processor and more RAM, we could also expect to see other enhancements. The Moto G9 Play currently has 13Mp, 8Mp and 2Mp cameras on the back. It is possible that the G9 Play will offer better photography performance. The 8Mp front-facing camera of the G8 Play could be improved too. The internal storage could increase to 64GB and the 3.5mm headphone jack could stay. At the moment, we could only speculate that the G9 Play will be launched on October this year, just like the G8 Play that was introduced at the same month, last year.
More details of the rest G9 series have been revealed. The more capable Moto G9 Plus could be available in October this year as well. The G9 Plus could be the first released, before the basic G9 version. We have spotted that G9 Plus on EEC certification database. The Moto G9 Plus will be an affordable mid-range device priced at around $315. There are still no official confirmation about the Motorola Moto G9 Plus. The tipster Sudhansu Ambhore spotted the Moto G9 Plus on ParatuPC, a Spanish retail website, priced at EUR 277. The device will have 4GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage.
We could expect that the Moto G9 Plus will be based on the current Moto G8 Plus. The G8 Plus is offering 6.3-inch display with Full HD+ display based on IPS LCD technology. It’s is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 665 SoC. Other internal components are 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. There are three cameras on the back, the 48Mp quad-pixel primary camera with f/1.7 aperture. There are also 16Mp wide-angle camera and 5Mp depth sensor. On the front, the G8 Plus has a 25Mp for better selfie photographs, so the G9 Plus may something similar or better. The Moto G8 Plus comes with 4000mAh battery and 15W fast charging. The device runs the stock version of Android 9 Pie with two colour options, Crystal Pink and Cosmic Blue.
