Samsung could be planning to release a cheaper and watered-down model of its flagship. Called the Galaxy S20 Fan Edition (FE), the device should be appealing for people who don’t want to spend too much on a high-performance smartphone. Samsung’s official website for Bulgaria has mentioned the Galaxy S20 FE, so we could be sure about the credibility of this report. However, there’s still no detailed information about the specs of the device. The device is shown in a YouTube Premium advertising. If you purchase the Samsung Galaxy S20 FE, you will obtain unlimited access for 4 months to watch YouTube Premium videos.
With a YouTube Premium subscription, you should be able to watch any video conveniently without getting any ad. However, Samsung’s website has confirmed that the Galaxy S20 FE will be launched in two variants, LTE and 5G. There were also reports that the display will be measured at 6.5-inch to 6.7-inch. The device should sport the 120Hz Infinity-O display. Just like the original Galaxy S20, the FE model will have Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 SoC for high-performance operations. It should have 6GB of RAM or more, for adequate multitasking performance. Its 128GB internal storage is probably rather limited for today’s standard, but that would be enough for any casual user.
It is quite likely that the Samsung Galaxy S20 FE will adopt a dual-chip approach. It means that units for European countries will use Exynos 990, instead of the usual Snapdragon 865. It is possible that there will be three cameras on the back. The primary camera should be a 12MP shooter, supported by an 8MP telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom and a 12Mp ultra-wide camera. The front-facing camera will have 32MP resolution, which is more than adequate for casual social media purposes. It will have a 4,500mAh battery, which is adequate for one day of moderate uses. It could be protected by IP68 protection rating, which allows the device to withstand water and dust exposures.
It is a good thing to know that the Galaxy S20 FE will still have a 3.5mm headphone jack. It is quite possible that the device will be launched in September and it will be sold for around $750, which may compete against upper mid-range devices in the market. This isn’t the only Galaxy S20 variant that’s released by Samsung. Previously, Samsung Electronics America has announced the Samsung Galaxy S20 TE (Tactical Edition). It is a military-grade device that is designed only for the US Department of Defense. It is designed to support military personnel during combat missions. It has external GPS support, laser range finders, support for drone feeds, and tactical radios.
It has highly customized Android software, which can integrate with existing peripherals and equipment used by US military. It also comes with DualDAR architecture, which is dual-layer encryption to protect sensitive data. Just like regular Galaxy S20, it also supports SIM card, Wi-Fi, and 5G data connectivity. For a complete stealth mode, the Galaxy S20 TE goes beyond the usual airplane mode. All RF broadcasting is shut down to prevent detection by the opposing force.
