As we are turning our attention to the new year, it’s interesting to see how flagship smartphone models and mid-range devices in 2021 will be. As always, there will be new Samsung Galaxy and Apple iPhone models next year, but other manufacturer will also release impressive models for their loyal customers. Here are upcoming smartphones you need to expect:
Samsung Galaxy S21
Samsung will introduce the Galaxy S21 in January or February 2021. There could be three possible models, the basic Galaxy S21, Galaxy S21+ and Galaxy S21 Ultra. We expect that the US version will have Snapdragon 888, while the International version could use Samsung’s new chipset, the Exynos 2100. The basic Galaxy S21 could have 6.2-inch display, the S21+ with 6.7-inch display and the S21 Ultra with 6.9-inch AMOLED display.
Huawei will also have its new flagship, the P50, which could arrive in Q1 2021. At the moment, we get little details about this phone, but it could have the Kirin 9000 chipset. If Huawei will still follow the earlier pattern, there could be models like Huawei P50, P50 Pro, P50 Pro Plus and P50 Lite.
OnePlus will release its new flagship the OnePlus 9 in Q1 or Q2 2021. It will be powered by a high-end Snapdragon chipset, probably the Snapdragon 888. With 120Hz refresh rate, the OnePlus 9 should be an excellent gaming device with 6.8-inch OLED display. There are also 48MP camera sensor and super-fast charging feature. We know that OnePlus devices are usually cheaper than competing models, so OnePlus 9 could be an interesting device for budget users.
LG rollable smartphone
LG may release a rollable smartphone model in March 2021, but we still don’t know about its official name. Other than some online rumours and a related patent listing, we know almost nothing about this device.
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3
It is possible that Samsung will skip the ‘Galaxy Z Flip 2’ naming. The Galaxy Z Flip 3 will make it on par with the upcoming Z Fold 3 in marketing terms. The new Flip device could have 120Hz refresh rate, narrower physical frame and 5G data connectivity. The thin glass will protect the 6.7-inch OLED screen. The updated hinge should improve reliability and flexibility. There’s also report that the device will have stereo speakers.
Google Pixel 5a
Google will release another flagship model, the Pixel 5a in 2021, probably following the Google I/O event in May 2021. It’s a direct successor to the current Pixel 4a. It should have affordable price tag and modest design. There could be two models, the regular Pixel 5a and the Pixel 5a XL with larger design.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3
With the good public acceptance for earlier Fold models, Samsung will definitely release another Fold model in 2021. It could be one of the pinnacles in smartphone design for 2021. There could be a number of coveted features, like the under-display camera. It’s also said that the Fold 3 will be slimmer than earlier Fold 2 models. With the possible inclusion of S Pen, the Fold 3 should be an intriguing model in the market.
