Following the Unpacked event, Samsung has officially announced three new smartphone variants, Galaxy A52 4G, Galaxy A52 5G and Galaxy A52 A72. These devices are available in Europe starting from March, with the following pricing: Galaxy A52 (349 EUR), Galaxy A52 5G (429 EUR) and Galaxy A72(449 EUR). On the back, these devices have soft matte finish, instead of glossy back of their predecessors. Available colour options are white, black, blue and violet. Visually, these mid-rangers look quite acceptable with punch hole for selfie camera, rounded corners and soft edges. As per usual, the volume and power buttons are on the right. Both A52 variants weigh at 189 grams, while A72 is 203 grams. Mid-range devices offer a good balance between features, design and price. It appears that these new A-series devices won’t disappoint us.
Both Galaxy A52 models have 6.5-inch display, while the Galaxy A72 with 6.7-inch display. These Super AMOLED panels have Full HD+ resolution, 90Hz refresh rate for the Galaxy A52 4G and Galaxy A72. The Galaxy A52 5G has smoother 120Hz refresh rate. Users should have smoother experience when using these devices, especially if they had been using smartphones with conventional 60 Hz display. The Eye Comfort Shield feature of these Galaxy A-series models can automatically adjust colour temperature to reduce eye strain.
These devices have octa-core chipsets, support for up to 1TB of microSD card, headphone jack, NFC and in-display fingerprint sensor. To be specific, the Samsung Galaxy A52 has Qualcomm Snapdragon 720G chipset, 4 or 6 or 8 GB of RAM and 128 or 256 GB of internal storage. Galaxy A52 5G has stronger Qualcomm Snapdragon 750G chipset, 6 or 8 GB of RAM and 128 or 256 GB of internal storage. The Galaxy A72 comes with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 720G chipset, 6 or 8 GB of RAM, 128 or 256 GB of internal storage. For better experience when listening to music, watching video and playing games, these devices come with Dolby Atmos audio technology. Compared to earlier Galaxy A series devices without this technology, the three new models offer more than 40 percent louder volume. These devices come with One UI 3 interface on top of Android 11 operating system. Samsung promises four years of continuous support with regular releases of security updates. It means, these devices have decent lifespan and can remain usable for a long time.
All these three A-series models have a primary 64MP rear-facing camera with OIS and autofocus features. It could record 4k videos, with useful features like My Filter, 4k Video Snap, Pro Video and Night Mode. The two A52 variants have three other cameras on the back – 12MP ultra wide-angle camera, 5MP depth sensor and 5MP macro camera. They support up to 10x digital zoom. The Samsung Galaxy A72 comes with 12MP ultra wide-angle camera, 8MP telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom and 5MP macro. A72 is more usable with its 30x digital zoom. On the front, these devices have 32MP camera, which is more than enough for social media selfies and basic vlogging. As a whole, these devices deliver decent photography features for mid-ranger models.
