Qualcomm Introduces Snapdragon 780G

Qualcomm’s 7xx series chipsets are designed for mid-ranger devices and the new Snapdragon 780G comes with the embedded 5G modem for better efficiency and compatibility. The chipset promises more than decent performance, without requiring you to pay a premium price tag. With 6th gen Qualcomm AI Engine and Qualcomm Spectra 570 ISP, devices with this chipset should offer good AI performance and more than acceptable images. The first chipset in the series is the Snapdragon 710 released in 2018 and as of now, nearly 400 smartphone models have used 7xx series chipsets. Qualcomm is keeping the momentum by delivering better experience for users who are looking a sweet spot in terms of good performance and acceptable pricing.

The Qualcomm Spectra 570 is a triple ISP (Image Signal Processor) that can simultaneously operate three cameras, including primary, ultra wide angle and telephoto lenses. The ISP integrates results from these three cameras to produce much better images and videos. For example, images should look much better in low-light situations or when you use the telephoto feature. The HDR10+ feature allows the device to capture more a billion colour shades. This ensures that photos look brilliant with excellent details, contrast and colours.

The Qualcomm Hexagon 770 processor and 6th gen Qualcomm AI Engine delivers 12 TOPs when performing AI operations, which is twice its direct predecessor. This allows AI to enhance all phone calls and video calls. It means, users can benefit from smart noise suppression and voice assistant interactions also work based on improved AI operations.

The Snapdragon 780 offers great performance in mid-range category with Kryo 670 cores clocked at 2.4GHz, which promises up to 40 percent better performance. The Qualcomm Snapdragon Elite Gaming offers a variety of features that ensure fully optimised environments. Gaming performance will not only smoother with the more capable CPU and GPU, the true 10-bit HDR also works on many games. The GPU has updatable drivers that allow Qualcomm to regularly release performance optimizations and fixes.

The built-in X53 5G modem works at sub-6GHz band that supports up to 3.3 Gbps download speed. The Qualcomm FastConnect 6900 Connectivity System offers VR-class low latency and Wi-Fi 6E standard with 3.6 Gbps data transfer. In terms of audio technology, the Snapdragon Sound technology includes system-level optimisations that redefine listening experience.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 780 supports up to FHD+ resolution with 144Hz refresh rate. It supports up to 192MP resolution for a single camera. For dual-camera arrangement, it supports up to 64Mp for primary camera and 20Mp for wide-angle or telephoto. For triple-camera, the chipset supports up to 25Mp each. Video capture features include Qualcomm 3D Sonic Max, 10-bit colour depth, 4k HDR and 2020 colour gamut. There is also integrated biometric authentication using facial recognition, voice recognition, iris scanning and fingerprint scanning. The Qualcomm 3D Sonic feature can also support biometric authentication.
