What We Know So Far About 14-inch M2 iPad (2022)?

14-inch M2 iPad

Reports about Apple’s next large-sized iPad have circulated recently. As new details are starting to gather pace, it is a good idea to sift through the noise and find out more about the 14-inch M2 iPad (2022). It appears that the tablet will definitely materialize, although we can’t really certain yet whether it will carry such a moniker. There’s a possibility that the tablet will be part of the iPad Pro series, but it could also be a separate lineup.

Processor

The M1 processor is an impressive piece of hardware and convincingly beats Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 in multiple benchmark results. The upcoming 14-inch iPad will be certainly a powerful tablet with an improved M2 processor. Apple has announced the chip officially during the reveal of a refreshed MacBook Air. It will be the new standard for future iPad and Macbooks, including the next iPad Pro model.

Display

Other than the high-performance M2 processor, the large 14-inch will be another noteworthy part of the upcoming tablet. By some margin, it will be the biggest iPad ever released by Apple. The iPad Pro currently tops out in terms of size with its 12.9-inch display. It has ProMotion technology for very smooth scrolling and mini-LED technology for improved energy efficiency. Although the 14-inch iPad won’t be an iPad Pro model, we could be hopeful that these two features will be included. For such a large display, users would appreciate smooth operations and acceptable battery life. If the tablet will be a non-Pro model, it may have a Home button. But, if it’s something similar to iPad Air, it could have Touch ID, instead of a physical home button.

Internal storage and RAM

For such a large mobile device, we can expect a good amount of internal storage. In fact, Apple may finally ditch a 64GB version, because it will leave very limited available storage space for users. Early reports suggest that the high-end tablet will start from 512GB of internal storage, while more expensive variants will have 1TB or 2TB of internal storage. A well-known leaker, Majin Bu, reported that Apple is working on a tablet with 16GB of RAM. Current iPad Pro models with an M1 processor are equipped with 8GB of RAM and up to 2TB of internal storage, so it’s a believable prediction. Bu further added that smaller iPad models with M2 processors will be released as well, including a 12.9-inch model with thinner bezels and a more compact tablet with an 11-inch display.

Price and availability

Pricing of the iPad can be a little tricky to predict, especially because we haven’t heard rumors about how much the 14-inch M2 iPad will be. At the moment, the 10.2-inch iPad with 64GB storage is sold for $329, while the latest iPad Pro with a 12.9-inch display begins at $1,099. It’s a huge disparity in prices, but it’s logical that the 14-inch iPad will be more expensive, considering its larger display and more capable hardware. The analyst Ross Young suggested that it’s a good bet that the tablet will be available in the last months of the year or early next year.
